Department Associate

Job Type: Full-time & Part-time

Ponderay Garden Center (PGC) is looking for a reliable and energetic plant department lead for our growing and established seasonal business within the community. The ideal candidate must be thoroughly familiar with and able to perform all aspects of plant and garden product sales which include but are not limited to: estimating, product sales, product organization, sales displays, scheduling, customer service, staff training and staff management. The plant department lead directly oversees the sales, service and organization of all plants, nursery stock, garden supplies and outdoor living products on a daily basis while interfacing with PGC staff, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Compensation will be evaluated and based upon experience. Additional roles include:

  • Urgently respond to customer needs and inquiries.

  • Discuss weekly or next day needs with department leads.

  • Daily management of inventory and facility organization.

  • Maintain and ensure efficient and safe work practices daily.

  • Support department managers with specific tasks related to their respective departments.

  • Assist and support all PGC departments, staff and operations on an as needed basis.

  • Represent the company in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Perform on site sales and customer support for all departments within PGC.

  • Maintains the smooth operation of the day to day functions in the absence of staff or department leads.

  • Communicates performance and operation problems to the department leads and general management.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Basic understanding of the landscape and garden industry.

  • Basic understanding of typical landscape maintenance tasks. Strong understanding of irrigation is preferred but not required.

  • Good people relationship skills.

  • Good organization skills.

  • Ability to work full days outdoors, in a physically demanding position during a variety of weather conditions.

  • Ability to multi-task.

  • Self directed.

  • Ability to work in a team environment and take direction from department leads.
